I think the site is clear and easy to navigate and understand. I think it could do with having a more human connection and also say why it’s good to get outdoors and be active. Include a family photo. Have a ‘What are active routes?’ pop out button. Add a hyperlink to Slow Ways. Include an explanation for organisations about what joining looks like - how would they add routes, is it easy etc.

Really helpful feedback, thank you Gill. I’ll make some updates that address all those suggestions.

Looks good! Nice and clear and easy to navigate. A couple of queries / suggestions below. Please ignore if not helpful :-)

    • What’s an ‘active route’? Be good to perhaps reword eg. ‘Know anyone who’d like it to be easier to find great routes to explore the outdoors…

    • Wheelchair image looks like quite a steep non Equality Act complaint ramp. Might be some better images available from Disabled Ramblers or Wheels for Wellbeing. As per comment below. Would suggest something that would look entry level eg. a tarmac surfaced old railway trail easy to use in a standard wheelchair or basic mobility scooter. See second image on this webpage - Let's Go Car-free - Discover the Keswick to Threlkeld Trail - Visit Lake District

    • Perhaps just say ‘explore with a wheelchair’ rather than ‘with all-terrain wheelchairs’ as the I’d think the majority of wheelchair user don’t have an all-terrain wheelchair or Tramper and would benefit from knowing which routes are accessible and comfortable for a standard chair.

    • Delete with in following sentence - ‘Good Ways will only be successful if lots of people, groups and organisations with join in by sharing their local knowledge, ideas, needs and generosity.’

    • Slight format continuity change suggestion (see image)

    • Will you be able to rate your experience of using others routes or offer feedback? If this is the case then I’m not sure it’s mentioned.

    • On the ‘Our plan’ page. As before it talks of ‘millions of people are missing out on active journeys’. Perhaps rephrase? ‘millions of people are mission out on exploring the outdoors?’ -

I find the non brand really appealing and honest. Nicely worded.

On the whole it all flows and makes sense to me, but the main point I think is the one below about knowing what the platform will be (ie an app and website) unless that really isn’t the main point.

    Notes:

    Contact page:

add links to the social profiles in the body of text.

“Connect with us on Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook, Threads or Linkedin.
Share your good ways and journeys on social media using #GoodWays”

    platform:

It takes a bit of reading small print to find out there will be an app. Should this be quite up front as a headline/bold/icons/? – as that will be core to the people asking “what am I going to get out of good ways?”

Both on the home page, but also Our Plan. Perhaps the subhead there could be along the lines of “We are building you best website and app for this mission” rather than the “we’ve got a plan”

I felt like the whole site was written with the internal knowledge that this is going to be an app, but that might not come across to a new user?

Really helpful, thanks so much. It’s all much more direct and clearer now… hopefully!

Looks great. Really clear and easy to navigate. Some minor comments -

    1. Minor grammatical note - lose the full stop at the end of the first title heading “Join Good Ways, the new citizen project to share the best active routes for everyone across the UK & Ireland.”

    2. When you’re choosing the membership option, it would help if the selected choice came to the top - as it is the Starter Member is at the top for all three

    3. There could be some more photos of groups walking together - ie. school children and of wildlife.

Can’t wait to use the app!

A couple of thoughts about the membership sign-up page/questions. The text supporting private/public profiles could make it a little clearer why both are needed/offered ie what the the distinction between them is for? There is also a bit of overlap between them (re motivations for joining good ways, one of the potentially longer questions). These things could be a bit off-putting for some? The private section is prefaced by a brief explanation, so maybe the same could be done for public, reiterating that all responses are optional etc.

Great, thank you Rowena. Most of this, including public profiles, is now set within profiles after sign in to make it easier.

I’d like to see a video and hear some conversation about the project, to make it all more relatable and human.

Website is easy to use and simple. The words citizen project may be too vague and could say off the rip that it’s an app but other than that it’s pretty straightforward 👍

My feedback for this app so far is I really like the concept and idea of a community of walkers or people travelling actively and I think the ability to filter routes for wheelchair users is a great feature, as this is something that many existing apps lack. I don’t like having to put in my details and having to sign up for a website before browsing it, and this extra step and the worry of not remembering to cancel a free trial is something that would potentially stop me at the first hurdle. Especially intrusive questions like asking for my social media accounts information. Some links I click on and it asks me to join up to access, even though I have already joined and am logged in. I’d be interested to see more as it develops. I have signed up using the free trial code, but I’m thinking that if I cancel my free trial now, I won’t be able to see how it’s going later without paying?

Thanks so much for the feedback Abbie. As a result of your comments and others, most of the questions are now optional and after sign up.

The issue of not getting access was because of an additional validation email that required an email, but because of your experience we have removed that now.

People who are not signed up members will still be able to get key updates, just not all member updates. We need subscriptions to fund the work, so are hoping we have got the balance right. We’ll see.

      Thanks again! Really appreciate it.

The new site looks bright and inviting and the photos emphasise all the different ways people can explore the countryside. Things that could be added are links to information about routes that have been verified on Slow Ways system, other walking groups like Ramblers, others supported by local authorities Active Life teams, and so on.
